Although the week isn’t over yet, and Kendrick’s DAMN. [Explicit] has already broken a bunch of Spotify records, he’s expected to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. He is expecting to break the previous debut by Drake’s More Lifeof 505,000 total units.
Damn. has already become one of the most critically acclaimed albums on Metacritic, and will likely hold the number one spot on the Billboard 200. There’s also a high chance he can dethrone Ed Sheeran off of the Hot 100 that he has been ruling for 12 weeks.
After four years at the Axis Theater at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, “Piece of Me” is coming to a close on December 31st of this year. Britney Spears’ pop residency has been massively successful, grossing over 100 million dollars and selling out shows upon shows. Britney’s presence on the strip has earned her awards and a key from the city of Las Vegas, and has drawn visitors from Beyonce to Miley Cyrus and so many more celebrities and fans.
This news comes shortly after the announcement of Britney’s International tour that’s taking place in between her Vegas sets this summer, and after her critically acclaimed ninth-album. Who knows where the future is heading for Britney Spears, but when it comes to her we always wish it to be bright.
The final tickets to see Britney in Vegas go on sale 4/14 at 10 AM.
After spending the past four years in Vegas, Britney Spears is finally adventuring across the globe for an international tour starting this summer!
So far, the two confirmed locations are in Manila, Philippines and Tel Aviv, Israel.
There’s also rumors all over the internet that she will be making stops in South America, China, France, England (including the O2 arena!) and more countries! Although none of these have been completely confirmed yet, Brit’s tweet said she’s “performing abroad this summer” so its safe to assume she’ll be going to more than two places!
After releasing one of the best pop albums of 2016 and of her career, its so exciting to see Britney getting away from her residency and exploring new ventures. We can’t wait!
Drake’s newest album More Life has been on a record smashing roll since its release last week. Not only did he break the previous Spotify records for the most streamed album in a day, and most streamed artist in a day(both recently set by Ed Sheeran), but he broke two Billboard records as well.
Drake now holds the title for the most hits on the Billboard Hot 100, passing the previous record holder and friend Lil Wayne. With his new album More Life, which is sitting happily at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, all 22 tracks plus 2 others of Drake’s combine to also break his previous record for the most simultaneous entries on the Hot 100 with 24 tracks.
All of this within the same month that Nicki Minaj broke the record for most entries among women.
Drake recently said that he wanted to be seen as more than a rapper, and rather a “pop star like Michael Jackson.” I think with Drake’s vision, drive, and general likability, he’s on his way. There hasn’t been anyone else like him whose been able to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time, especially while being so young. With Drake as a driving force, the future of music looks bright.
Ed Sheeran has been accused of copying the melodies of other artists at least three times now. Clearly there is a trend occurring, but whats funny is that I definitely heard “Cheap Thrills” by Sia the first time I heard “Shape Of You.” But apparently its closer to another huge hit, TLC’s “No Scrubs.”
The argument is over the similarities between the pre-chorus of Sheeran’s current hit, and the chorus of the 90’s R&B classic. The words are definitely different, but the melody and rhythm similarities are undeniable:
“Girl, you know I want your love/ your love was handmade for somebody like me” is way too damn similar to “No, I don’t want no scrubs/ a scrub is a guy who can’t get no love from me.”
“No Scrubs” was also a Hot 100 number one in 1999, so in my opinion it takes away from the authenticity of Sheeran’s number one because the content is undeniably unoriginal.
Come on Ed, I’d like to think you can do better as a songwriter, but I’m beginning to lose faith.
Nicki Minaj has finally surpassed Aretha Franklin’s record of 73 entries as a female on the Billboard Hot 100 this past week with her three newest tracks on the chart, including “No Frauds” with Drake and Lil Wayne.
The record for most appearances by a female on the Hot 100 now stands at 76, and I’m assuming that number will continue to rise with expected releases from Minaj in both the near and distant future. However, it’s probably important to note that throughout all 76 of her entries on the famous chart, Nicki has never notched a number one. Will she ever accomplish this feat that seems so much simpler to achieve than the record she just broke?
Regardless, its amazing what the Queen of Rap has done for the music industry in her relatively short career, and her impact is undeniable. She’s definitely just getting started.
In third place for most female entries on the Hot 100 sits Taylor Swift comfortably, and I’m predicting that her and Nicki are going to go back and forth with this record over the next few years, which if nothing else may make for some exciting headlines.
